da 888casino: Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to react after the club confirmed that Neil Critchley had left Anfield to take the role of head coach at League One outfit Blackpool.
da fezbet: Critchley was in charge of the Reds U23 side, and has been entrusted to oversee some first-team games this season.
He was on the touchline for Liverpool’s Carabao Cup quarter-final defeat against Aston Villa, where he watched his U23 players lose 5-0 to the Villans’ first-team with Jurgen Klopp and the likes of Mohamed Salah away on Club World Cup duty.
Critchley was also handed the reins when Shrewsbury travelled to Anfield in the FA Cup fourth round as Liverpool’s first-team were on their winter break, and he managed to record a 1-0 win to help set up a fifth round tie against Chelsea, which takes place at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday.
He was quite evidently a well-respected member of staff having been trusted by Klopp to take charge of numerous first-team outings, and it will be interesting to see how he gets on in charge of Blackpool.
Let’s see how the Liverpool fans on Twitter reacted to the news…
To kick off the reaction, these three supporters all mentioned just how big a loss Critchley will be.
Of course, an U23 manager isn’t often a pivotal figure at the club in regards to the first-team other than helping young players develop, but in this case, it can be considered a big loss given his work with the likes of Curtis Jones and Neco Williams, both of whom have seemed more than capable of being useful to Klopp.
Elsewhere, there was something of an overreaction amid sensible comments.
As impressive as Critchley’s work has been, Matt said that Liverpool are now “finished as a club” following the news, which isn’t at all the case despite the news obviously being somewhat of a blow.
No clues: Can you name the season these iconic Liverpool images belong to?
However, one fan kindly wished the newly-appointed Blackpool boss good luck before another said it was a “setback” – it can definitely be considered as one given the impressive nature of his work this season.
