da betsson: After appointing Manuel Pellegrini as manager, West Ham backed the Chilean significantly during the transfer market with players of various positions brought in ahead of the new campaign.
da jogodeouro: One name the London hierarchy were not able to get through the door, however, was Porto’s Yacine Brahimi.
The Breakdown
According to Record (via the Daily Star), the east London club saw a £30m bid turned down for the Algerian winger who is currently subject of interest from other Premier League clubs.
Given the profile and calibre of £23.4m-rated (via Transfermarkt) Brahimi, missing out on the Porto man may come as a disappointment to West Ham supporters.
That being said, in Felipe Anderson and Andriy Yarmolenko, the Hammers have two wingers of the same quality.
Yarmolenko was starting to strut his stuff before picking up an Achilles injury, while Anderson has burst into life over West Ham’s last couple of fixtures.
Like Brahimi, both players are good dribblers and brilliant when it comes to taking on full-backs 1v1.
With all of that mind, failing to bring in Brahimi will hardly come as a blow. While Anderson and Yarmolenko are yet to show their best in a West Ham shirt, in terms of ability, they are probably two of the best wingers in the division outside of the Premier League top six alongside the likes of Wilfried Zaha and Richarlison.
Undoubtedly, Brahimi would have been a terrific addition to West Ham’s squad. But Anderson and Yarmolenko are just as good.
