da heads bet: Two goals from Franco Di Santo kept up Wigan’s best start to a Premier League season at the expense of QPR. The Argentine striker struck a goal in each half at the DW Stadium to make it three games unbeaten for Roberto Martinez’s men.
da bet7: It could have been so different for Neil Warnock’s side with Adel Taarabt hitting the post twice in the first half and Bruno Perone also hitting the woodwork in the second forty five.
The home side have played all three promoted teams and finally picked up their first three point haul of the new campaign thanks to Di Santo. His first goal four minutes before half time certainly displayed the qualities that prompted Martinez to sign him from Chelsea, flicking up a pass from Victor Moses before hammering a 25-yard volley past Paddy Kenny.
Wigan’s incisive attack certainly paled in comparison to the visitors who relied on Taarabt to inspire them when going forward. He smashed the post from 20 yards before testingAli Al Habsi with a stinging 35 yard range pile driver only for the Oman international to palm the ball away
That save proved to be crucial as Di Santo secured victory in the second half taking the ball off strike partner Hugo Rodallega’s boot before smashing the ball into the top corner via a deflection off Perone’s back.
Despite the defeat Rangers played some impressive football but will need to mimic Di Santo’s clinical edge in front of goal if they are to remain in the top flight.
