Vitesse Arnhem’s technical director Johannes Spors has revealed that the club could sell Glasgow Rangers target Danilho Doekhi this summer.
The Lowdown: Gers eye Doekhi
The Gers have been linked with a move for the 23-year-old in recent months (via Glasgow Live).
As of yet, the Ibrox outfit have not made an official move for the centre-back, but they have now been given some encouragement.
The Latest: Spors admits Vitesse could
Speaking to Voetbal International (via Inside Futbol), Spors admitted that Vitesse could sell Doekhi if they receive a good enough bid. He said:
“We would like to keep Doekhi, but we also have to be realistic.
“If a top club can and want to meet his asking price, then it can be interesting.
“We don’t want Doekhi to go, but we also understand that we develop [players] at Vitesse.”
The Verdict: Could Gers make a move?
This is no doubt a boost for the Gers – the suggestion here is that a good enough bid for the £2.7m-valued defender (Transfermarkt) could convince Vitesse to part ways with him. He has made 94 appearances for the Arnhem club since joining from Ajax and missed just two matches in the Eredivisie last season.
Rangers have an array of central defenders from which to choose – Steven Gerrard now has five centre-back options at his disposal with Nikola Katic returning from injury, along with Connor Goldson, Filip Helander, Leon Balogun and the returning George Edmundson.
Do the Gers really need another defender? Perhaps only if someone leaves should they make a move for Doekhi.
In other news, Rangers have a worrying funding gap to fill.
