da dobrowin: Sheffield United are showing interest in 17-year-old Hartlepool striker Josh Scott, according to The Hartlepool Mail. Despite the player still being incredibly raw, the Blades clearly see something in him that can benefit their illustrious youth academy.
What’s the word?
Hartlepool are in danger of losing yet another one of their best academy prospects after Conner Rennison was linked with Barnsley last week.
Sheffield United are yet to make an official approach for the player but his signature looks as though it could be easy to secure.
After Hartlepool showed the exit door to Luca Murphy for not signing professional terms, it appears they could release Scott amid fears of being played around by agents and clubs.
The forward has been part of the youth setup at the Super 6 Stadium since 2014.
Another Billy Sharp on their hands?
A number of high-quality players have come through the Yorkshire club’s youth academy and therefore joining Sheffield United would represent an attractive proposition for someone like Scott.
England defenders Kyle Walker and Harry Maguire progressed from the system at Bramall Lane whilst other Premier League central defenders Phil Jagielka and Simon Francis have too. Most recently, David Brooks joined Bournemouth from Chris Wilder’s side.
However, one of the Blades’ favourite academy products is without a doubt Billy Sharp. Comparisons between him and the young striker can be drawn which should get supporters excited.
Hartlepool brand Scott as a strong and athletic out and out forward. He has the capability to score goals but also work hard for the team, creating opportunities for other players.

It’s that final attribute that makes him the perfect Wilder player and also a similar proposition to Sharp. The Bladesman is particularly good at holding the ball up and using his strong frame to bring others into play. This is why they must sign him.
Sharp is a fan favourite and Scott would have to go some way to replicating what he’s done for Sheffield United. But there is certainly attributes to his game that can make him a success if he makes the move.
