He said: “To collect over 1.6 million signatures is a remarkable achievement by Morrisons and demonstrates what the amazing support that they have been able to get from their customers across Britain. It is really important for the bid to demonstrate to FIFA that the World Cup is something that people in England really want and this is a great way of doing just that. It’s now down to that all important vote in Zurich next week but there’s no doubt in my mind that Morrisons and its customers have more than played their part in showing just what a World Cup in England would mean to us all”.
Kelly Brook said: “People always get really excited when major sporting events come here, which shows how important sport is to people across England. If anything, with so many Morrisons customers backing our 2018 bid, it looks like a World Cup taking place here would be an even bigger occasion. I’m pleased to say I’ve signed up to back the bid!”
Andy Anson, England 2018 bid Chief Executive, said: “We set ourselves a target of securing the support of 2 million people around the world for our bid and with Morrisons having contributed well over 1.6m of those, we reached that target with ease. I think that is clear that our bid is extremely well supported across England and a great deal of this is thanks to Morrisons”.
Michael Bates, Morrisons Marketing Director, said: “We knew when we became a partner that we could help the public demonstrate its overwhelming support for the bid. As such, we’re delighted to be in a position to deliver such a huge number of signatures in support of England 2018 and our thanks go out to our customers and staff across the country for helping us to achieve so much”.
