Per a report from Football Insider, Kalvin Phillips is yet to sign a new deal with Leeds because they have failed to offer him wages that much the club’s highest earners.
What’s the word?
Phillips has been at the centre of a long-standing transfer saga this summer with numerous clubs taking an interest in the versatile 23-year-old.
He had attracted both Wolves and Aston Villa with the Villans even submitting an £11m bid for the player.
Only recently, it was revealed by TEAMtalk that they would attempt to offer three players in return for Phillips.
However, the latest update regarding his contract talks suggests that he wants to be offered around £40k a week, wages that would match Kiko Casilla and Patrick Bamford.
Per Football Insider, he’s currently on a salary of £10k so he’s expecting a mighty increase in order to stay.
Radrizzani’s plan
With the news fresh in the mind that Phillips merely wants a pay rise in order to be kept at the club, Radrizzani could deploy a genius plan in order to keep one of their star men around.
The fact that Casilla could leave is no secret but whether or not his future is at Elland Road remains to be seen.
Football Insider laid claims last week that they were trying to find a buyer for the Spanish goalkeeper before the window shuts and that could prove key to whether one of their more versatile men stays.
Phillips was one of their stars last season, playing as many as 44 times in the Championship and therefore it’s hard to argue against why he shouldn’t receive a pay rise, especially with the Premier League sniffing around his services.
Therefore, if Radrizzani and Leeds can ship on Casilla, it will then free up a slot in the wage bill for Phillips to be given higher wages.
Selling the stopper might have to happen quickly, though, because if Leeds continue to stall on offering Phillips the money he wants, it wouldn’t be a great surprise if he ended up fleeing the nest.
For the Whites, this is a crucial moment in their summer. Radrizzani must get things right.
