Former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan has heaped praise on Manchester United’s move for Daniel James, and Red Devils fans will absolutely love what he had to say next.
Manchester United announced the signing of James from Swansea on Friday, the first of what will no doubt be several arrivals at Old Trafford this summer.
As reported by Sky Sports, the young winger completed a medical with the club on Thursday and is expected to cost £18m, an initial £15m with £3m in possible add-ons.
And Jordan, speaking on TalkSPORT, said he expects United to spend big this summer to ensure they close the gap on Manchester City and Liverpool next season.
Could Harry Maguire be on his way to Old Trafford? Check out the video below to see why it would make so much sense…
What did he say?
“I think this (James) is exactly the kind of move Manchester United should be making,” Jordan told TalkSPORT.
“I think United are going to spend an unprecedented amount of money this summer to be able to bridge the gap, and it’s a risk because I think they’ve got the wrong manager in place.”
After explaining why the club is doing everything right by signing a young, hungry player like James instead of big-name players with big price tags and big egos, he continued: “So, I think this is a step in the right direction for Manchester United.”
The five magic words
Jordan’s opinions on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer being the “wrong manager” will surely divide fans, as after a stunning start but a horrific end to his first season at the helm the Norwegian boss is now under intense pressure.
There’s only five words fans should really care about though, and they are “an unprecedented amount of money”.
Jordan was chairman at Selhurst Park for a decade and now works regularly for TalkSPORT, so it’s a pretty good assumption that he has his ear to the ground in the footballing world.
Fans were unconvinced when reports claimed they would undergo a proper revamp this summer, but those five words from Jordan are surely music to their ears.
Now, what “an unprecedented amount of money” actually means is anyone’s guess, but get excited United fans, it’s going to be a long summer.
